Key Stage 3
Years 7 and Year 8
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum currently focuses upon students embedding themselves at The Grove School, particularly through their experiences within The Shore, and providing the foundation of knowledge and understanding to support later studies. Our Year 7 curriculum is enhanced through partnerships with the Birmingham Rep Theatre and also through our partnership with Shropshire Music Services where all students will learn a musical instrument. Building upon existing student knowledge, whilst exposing them to a greater range of learning experiences is fundamental to this period of the curriculum, particularly in Years 7 and 8. Students’ academic curriculum will also be enhanced through their Discovery (Personal Development, PSHE and Careers) Curriculum with this being supported by half-termly Discovery Days.
Our Year 9 curriculum develops upon the work undertaken in years 7 and 8 as they prepare for taking their Key Stage 4 options that start in Year 10. In addition to the subjects studied at the start of their Grove School curriculum, with further focus upon the ‘Future Me’ programme to support students’ transition into GCSE and Level 2 qualifications. There will also be opportunities for students to further study elements of mental health first aid that links to a formally recognised mental health qualification.
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum model is as follows and is based upon a one week timetable with 5 hours of lessons per day. This is in addition to the 30 minute Daily Discovery programme that includes Future Me (Careers), PSHE and reading that is delivered by Form Tutors:

Year 9 Curriculum
Our Year 9 curriculum develops upon the work undertaken in years 7 and 8 as they prepare for taking their Key Stage 4 options that start in Year 10. In addition to the subjects studied at the start of their Grove School curriculum, students will be enhancing their experience by completing the Trinity Board Arts Award Bronze-level qualification that combines their experiences of Art, Drama and Music through portfolio-based assessment completed through the year. In addition, through their Discovery (Personal Development, PSHE and Careers) curriculum, students will also develop some of the skills required as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award qualification, with students having the opportunity to extend their skills and achieve the full award. The Discovery Curriculum will be further enhanced by half-termly Discovery Days and our No Limits experiences in July.
